Vintage and Modern

Technologies in the field of construction do not stop improving. Construction materials that have lost their relevance are being replaced by new ones. Such an area as facade design is not ignored either.

Today, stucco looks no less attractive and original, meets the necessary quality standards for such materials for facade cladding.

Gypsum, as well as marble perfectly replace artificial building material, characterized by a high degree of resistance to the negative influences of nature. It perfectly withstands ultraviolet light, cold and precipitation.

Gypsum decor for the facade.

Practicality, originality, tradition – the main characteristics of moldings created from gypsum. Thanks to the convenience and ease of work with this material, you can get a variety of volume exclusive details.

Facade decor with stucco from such material as gypsum, is carried out directly on the wall surface, or in the workshop, with further installation in the place of placement.

For this purpose, ordinary gypsum, designed for the manufacture of sculptures, or hydrophobic, which prevents the penetration of moisture, is used. The hydrophobic gypsum has a special composition, so this material has a higher price. It is characterized by high moisture and frost resistance.

According to professionals, it is not difficult to work with this material if the required molds and accessories are available. Gypsum is perfectly restorable, and architectural designs will last for a long period of time. This is a fact that has been proven over many years. Various cracks and defects can be repaired once every five years with a special gypsum compound.

There are several disadvantages to gypsum material. One is a large mass. For this reason, it is not desirable to install gypsum parts on structures made of lightweight structures. The other is the possibility of splitting in the event of an accidental fall, which requires the utmost accuracy in the process of assembling the material.

Installation of the products of facade original stucco is carried out by means of dowels, special adhesive mass and nails.

Styrofoam moldings, as well as polyurethane foam

The main difference between polystyrene foam as well as polyurethane is the low weight, which makes the installation of finished products much easier. Stucco is held on a special adhesive composition, for this reason is excellent for buildings that are erected from lightweight modern materials.

Polyurethane facade decor is not afraid of moisture, does not lose color, does not break. In addition, polyurethane performs a heat-insulating function. However, the disadvantage of stucco is that in the process of combustion emits substances harmful to health.

During the creation of cellular styrofoam facade decorations, a machine is used to cut out the desired shape and size of the elements. They are then covered with glue, the necessary mesh, another layer of glue, and paint.

The listed types of stucco are much more practical and expensive in comparison with the plaster version, but to repeat the exclusivity and expressiveness of plaster decorations, foams are not capable.

The disadvantages include a low degree of resistance to the influence of ultraviolet light, as well as the inability to carry out restoration work if cracks occur.

The original decor for the facade of concrete is created from polymer concrete, or from an equally well-known material such as fiberglass concrete. The most reliable material of this group includes polymer concrete.

In this variant, the binder is a polymer. Polymer concrete stucco is characterized by a high degree of frost resistance, attractiveness of the pattern, maximum strength, durability.

Fiberglass Stucco

Beautiful homes with stucco made of fiberglass are very attractive and can withstand excessively high and maximum low temperatures. The material is made from quartz fibers, glass fibers, and thermopolymers.

The price of fiberglass facade ornament is very high, however, among the analogues is one of the best options, because in terms of characteristics it is better than them. Among the disadvantages – the impossibility of creating openwork elements.

When choosing facade decorations, it is important to decide what acts as a priority – the originality of the figure, durability or cost. However, in any case, the stucco will successfully decorate the exterior of the house, will give volume and solemnity to the facade.

Varieties of stucco

Depending on the purpose, the form of stucco for facade design is divided into such types as:

Columns as well as pilasters. Often installed at the entrance, on open large-sized balconies. In the process of installation are necessarily designed to rest on the upper-bottom surface, in rare cases are arranged suspended. For installation, it is preferable to contact a specialist.

Arches. Such elements are used to decorate window openings and doors, as in the photo of facade stucco below. Not a difficult type of stucco, so the installation can be carried out with your own hands.

Bas-reliefs. Mounted over the doorway at the entrance, are used as decoration of the facade wall surface of the second floor. The work can be done with their own hands, as it does not require professional skills and a lot of time.

Handrails. Installed next to the front doors. This type of stucco is created exclusively from concrete, while details of foam and plaster are not used on facades.

Stucco Installation.

First Step. Choose which facade stucco is best suited for the facade of your home and decide on the place of its future placement.

Important! When choosing the style of design of the wall surface of the facade, consider not only the decorative indicators, but also the characteristics of the walls. In the case where the facades are not very reliable, it is better to prefer a lightweight foam stucco material, but if the walls are created from brick, then you can use any stucco. It is installed exclusively on the brick facade, or plaster.

Second step. Prepare the facade surface by cleaning it of dust. If necessary, you need to level the wall, using a plaster trowel. The denser the roughness of the wall surface under the stucco, the stronger will be the adhesion.

Third step. Make a marking of the working surface. After making the necessary markings, examine the wall again, checking the accuracy of the lines.

Fourth step. Subject the parts to fixation without a stop, usually these are the window tills. The following parts will be held directly on them to give the structure maximum strength. To prevent the stucco from sinking when the glue dries, make additional stops in the form of ordinary nails.

Step Five. Measure the cornice from below, then saw off the desired ends. Styrofoam moldings can be cut well with a simple hacksaw. If you have an electric saw, the work will go much faster.

Sixth step. To decorate the house with facade stucco by your own hand, prepare a special adhesive composition, adhering to the manufacturer’s advice given in the instructions.

The seventh step. Using a spatula, apply the resulting mixture to the wall surface and stucco. If it is hot outside, then moisten the wall with water.

Eighth step. Put the material firmly against the wall, and then remove the excess adhesive using a spatula. It is important that the bottom of the material does not slide down.

Step Nine. Apply the top side of the decor to the surface, while marking the cutoff areas.

Tenth step. Prepare the elements of the side in the same way.

Step eleven. Align all the parts, pressing them together as tightly as possible. Eliminate any excess that appears.

Step Twelve. To give the fastener maximum strength, fix the material in several areas using dowels.
